90 Minutes of Solitude - Challenge #4
I swear, just the idea of having 90 minutes of free time - no kids, no husband - is unfathomable to me. This happens on the weekends ocassionally, but only when I absolutely have to sleep so I can go back to work.
I'm going to make this more specific, just for the sake of daydreaming.. let's say it's a crisp fall day, mid-50's outside, and the leaves have just started to turn.
The first thing I'm going to do is brew a cup of tea in one of my special teacups - need to set the tone for this hour and a half of mine. Next on the list is starting a batch of pumpkin raisin scones. This solves two problems; first, it makes the house smell delightful, and second, c'mon, it's scones!
While the scones are baking, I'm opening all of the windows. Time to air out the house when there's no little people (or big people) around to complain about the pollen or the cold. Then, I'm going to grab a pillow and curl up on the porch with a good book - maybe, "The Witching Hour," by Anne Rice. It's a good Halloween book, perfect for a fall day.
Eventually, the scones are finished baking, and I can polish a couple of them off while I'm reading my book. I've tracked down Thor, my fat, snuggly kitty. He's purring happily in my lap, ocassionally batting at the book because he's afraid I'm paying too much attention to it, and not enough to him.
Sadly, my ninety minutes to myself has ended, and it's time to go back to being a mommy and a wife. It was nice while it lasted...
